On Characterisation.

19 Oct

Remember: Know your character, inside and out, because then and only then will you successfully develop.

I am no pro writer but this is advice that I’ve gotten from my English writing professor and my High school Theatre teacher. It’s pretty good advice, I normally “become” the character kind of like “method acting” because you need to know their strengths, weaknesses, likes, dislikes, background, etc.

You DON’T need to write all of it down but know it so that if a situation arises such as somebody is stuck in an elevator then your character fixes it because they studied engineering at university but didn’t finish because he quit to tour with his bandmates, although he only had a year left and had already covered more complicated things than this so is able to fix it.

See what I mean?

Anyways il be back to discuss more on this subject later on.
